May 2006 Conference Call
ACM History Committee May 2006 Conference Call

    May 25, 2006 4-5:00 EST

Present: Mary Hall, Mike Mahoney, Len Shustek, and David S. Wise.

  1. New Webmaster

Given that the structure is now in place, it seems that a volunteer (or three) could maintain the site.

  2. NMAH interactions

    This was not discussed.

In subsequent discussion between David and Rick, it was decided:

    • the CODASYL material (11 hours) should be split between the History Committee and SIGMOD

    • the History Committee should pick up the Grosch interview (3 hours) and the ACM 1972 meeting (3 hours)

    • We'll look into SIG sponsorship of the Griswold interview (about 3 hours).

  3. Status on open items

    1. web site

Joe is planning on finishing this version of the web site by mid-June

    2. Transcripts on ACM DL

Mark Mandelbaum has committed that the initial transcripts will be loaded by July 1.

    3. SIG interactions

No discussion during the conference call.

    4. History Committee mission statement before Council

This was approved, with one change.

    5. Conference calls in fall

David listed the dates for the fall conference calls (all Thursday, 4-5pm EST):

      September 7
      October 12
      November 16
      December 14

  4. Annual report

Rick prepared a draft annual report that David will review and complete.

  5. Interviewing outgoing ACM President

David and Rick discussed this subsequent to the conference call. We decided that this would be an in-depth interview, separate from the outgoing President's report, but that it should be done *after* the person exited Council (they remain a member for two years after completing their term) and then only if they are not engaged in significant ACM business in other guises.
