October 2007 Conference Call
ACM History Committee October 2007 Conference Call

    October 18, 2007, 4:00-5:00pm EDT

    Present:
Bill Aspray, Mary Hall, Carol Hutchins, Mike Mahoney, Rick Snodgrass, and David S. Wise

  1. Pubs Board

  2. Carol reported on the Pubs Board face-to-face meeting the previous week that the "Draft Policy on Access to Submissions and Reviews" was presented to the Pubs Board. The view was that different sensibilities exist in referees about privacy.

This elicited much discussion within the History Committee, about how such an opt-out could be administered, whether the policy was appropriate in other circumstances, and to what extent the History Committee should consider the draft policy further.

Carol will revise the draft policy to add an explicit opt-out mechanism.

  3. SIG issues

  4. There is some interest at SIGOPS to do a History of Operating Systems Conference, similar to HOPL.

SIGDA's anniversary is in 2010. This SIG is interested in doing a history of the SIG for this anniversary.

SIGMM has a Preservation Chair for their conference.

  5. Interviews

  6. Rick summarized the status: 13 interviews in flight.

We determined that interviews should be in-person interviews, not phone interviews.
