History Committee Conference Call, April 17, 2008, 4:00-5:00 PM Eastern Time
Participants
: Bill Aspray, Mike Mahoney, Rick Snodgrass, David S. Wise

  1. Prior tasks

  2. The minutes from March 29 were approved.

  3. SIG issues

  4. All were encouraged to send questions and answers for the SIG FAQ to Jesse, who will add them to http://history.acm.org/content.php?do=sigfaq

  5. Interviews

  6. We discussed the next round of interviews.

  7. Sealed archive proposal

  8. Len provided specs in a prior email:

The traditional recommendation for graphical material is:
    • use acid-free 100% cotton rag 24# weight paper
    • use an inkjet printer with pigment based ink, not dye-based ink

But for blank-and-white text our archivist, says:
    • Laser printing is recognized as more permanent than inkjet for your basic black & white text.

The conclusion is that for text, either is ok. The critical factor is acid-free paper.

    An interesting resource is http://www.wilhelm-research.com/.

  9. Dates for summer calls?

  10. We will have CC May 22, then restart in September, perhaps around Sept 11, Thursdays at 4pm ET.

  11. Adjournment. Next teleconference call: May 22: 4pm EDT / 1pm PDT
