ACM History Committee

Several members of the Committee have professional interests in computing education. The Committee’s stance is that history should be incorporated for all topics of the computing curriculum in at least a light-weight manner. The ACM/IEEE-CS/AAAI Computer Science Curricula 2023 included very little related to history, leading us to seek to become better involved in the future, in part by establishing a Curriculum subcommittee.

Members of the Committee have developed and submitted proposals regarding the presence of history in teaching computer science to several computing education research venues. See a recent publication by Committee member John Tucker in ACM Transactions on Computing Education: ‘Tangibles and computing education: a view from the history of computing’.
