ACM History Committee

This project is developing resources and providing support and training for SIG Historians to document and preserve the activities, artifacts, and archives of their SIGs.

The first event the History Committee organized to specifically target “SIG historians” was the workshop in May 2019 (https://acmsigheritage.dash.umn.edu/) and described in this blog entry.

Attendees included representatives of 11 different SIGs, 6 History Committee members, 2 fellowship winners, 2 others with project responsibility and 2 Babbage staff.

A followup workshop in late 2022 was called Capturing Hidden ACM Heritage. The event benefited from three keynotes, as well as presentations about projects from groups such as ACM-W Europe, SIGGRAPH, SIGCSE, SIGCOMM, the ACM/IEEE Supercomputer Conference, and the Software Heritage Initiative, as well as about projects carried out by
members the ACM History Committee.

Our resource website heritage.acm.org is under development as a place to share good practice.

The premier issue of Heritage Insights in the ACM DL is nearly complete and we anticipate publication in early 2026.
